Komori Corporation (Sumida-ku, Tokyo;
President and CEO: Satoshi Mochida) is pleased to announce that it has
developed a high-resolution patterning technology for Indium Tin Oxide (ITO)
transparent electrodes using printing technology developed through joint
research with the Yamagata University Research Group for Flexible
Technologies. ITO transparent electrodes are key
components of solar cells, and this technology enables the development of
highly precise electrode patterns without relying on conventional high-cost
manufacturing methods. The technology was exhibited at the Yamagata University
booth (East Hall 7, Booth 7E-16) during the JPCA Show 2026, held at Tokyo Big
Sight from Wednesday, June 10 to Friday, June 12, 2026.
Based on print technology cultivated through
decades of offset printing press development, the Komori Group has been
expanding its technological capabilities in the field of Printed Electronics
(PE). In 2025, Komori announced progress in the development of thin-film
coating technology for perovskite solar cells and has been working toward
establishing mass-production technologies for next-generation solar cells
through printing processes. By developing a new
printing-based approach for the patterning of ITO transparent electrodes,
Komori has moved one step closer to realizing solar cell manufacturing through
an integrated printing process.
Conventionally, ITO transparent electrode patterning has relied on methods such as laser scribing and photolithography, which involve multiple process steps or significant equipment investment. This technology is a new approach that enables the high-precision patterning of ITO transparent electrodes by replacing these conventional methods with a printing process. The printing process that supports this technology is based on expertise provided by Seria Corporation, a Komori subsidiary. Looking ahead, Komori will continue development with a view toward applying this technology to the manufacturing of next-generation solar cells, including perovskite solar cells and organic photovoltaic (OPV) cells, and ultimately deploying it in integrated production lines.
