Began
barely with a single letterpress, establishment of Kolhapur-based Shivam Offset
is dated back to the late 1980s when the company simply started as a printer of
bill books and visiting cards. Today, the company has earned its reputation as a
prominent book printer and packaging convertor running four fully-equipped production
units which get regularly upgraded with advanced presses and finishing
equipment, among which the latest being a brand new KOMORI Lithrone G37.
Backed
by a team of 300 highly-skilled and experienced staff members, two of Shivam
Offset’s four production units are located in Kolhapur while the remaining two
are in Pune and Belgaum. A total of 17 web presses, 8 offset presses, and a line
of post-press equipment are now productively and efficiently running at the
facilities of the company’s production units. “The brand new Lithrone GL37 has
been installed at one of our Kolhapur units,” tells Mr. Sanjay Mahadev Thorwat,
Founder of Shivam Offset. He adds that the new six-colour KOMORI sheet-fed
offset press is ideal for handling multiple print jobs.
Addition
of the new Lithrone G37 to the fleet of machines at one of Shivam Offset’s
Kolhapur units is bolstering the company’s book and packaging printing into new
quality and standard. Ideally engineered and well suited for book printing with
its ability to handle short turnarounds, variable job sizes, and diverse print
needs, the new KOMORI offset press at Shivam Offset is perfect and precise for
publishing as well as commercial printing jobs.
Capable to operate at an unprecedented speed of 15,000sph (sheets per hour), with precise control for high-quality outputs, the Lithrone G37 features an Offline KHS-AI control system for quick startup, high-speed operation, and also other features revolving around automations and stability. Such advanced features of this new KOMORI offset press make it an ideal machine for printing books with minimal waste at Shivam Offset.
Other added advanced features and capabilities of the Lithrone G37 include its versatility in media handling. It can efficiently accommodate sheets of diverse thicknesses, ranging from 0.04mm up to 0.6mm, while 0.8mm can also be handled optionally. This media flexibility of the press makes it a suitable machine to handle a widest range of papers for books. “After all, 37-inch format of the press is perfect for producing A-1 size print outputs, which not only ideal for books but also commercial graphic prints,” emphasises Mr. Sanjay.
The lines of other high-end modern presses and post-press equipment now running as key machines and systems at the four production units of Shivam Offset are from Heidelberg, Bindwel, Muller Martini, etc. The company’s client base is spread vastly across the length and breadth of the country, primarily covering the states of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Goa, and Bihar. Mr. Sanjay states that they have also been engaging in some book printing projects for select overseas clients over the years.
Mr. Sanjay is now joined by his sons, Mr. Shivam Sanjay Thorwat and Mr. Kamlesh Thorawat, in the business, alongside his brother Mr. Vijay Thorwat. Named the company after him, Mr. Sanjay’s elder son Mr. Shivam was pursuing engineering. “We keep moving with the constant upgrades of machine portfolio, such as the addition of the Lithrone G37, and boosting of our team with the welcome of younger generations on board,” concludes Mr. Sanjay.
